Recently I took up a student membership at the art museum in my city, and was absolutely thrilled at the prospect of being able to give ample time to each gallery. I should mention that for the last two years, I used to frequent the place when there was free admission, and almost always ended up going to the same sections again and again. However since becoming a member, I have taken up the adventure of exploring all the collections in this great place. I was pleasantly surprised to see lots of sculptures of Indian Gods and Goddesses and in an adjoining hall was the museum's contemporary art collection. Now I may not be a knowledgeable person when it comes to art, but I am sure that what I saw was nothing close to the A in Art.As you can see in this picture, it is difficult to understand what possessed the artist to think that this is a master piece. And if it wasn't the artist then it would've been the critics who praised it to such heights that now it is hung at a short height in the art museum. A black board? an empty frame? or just a black trough ? so many different images gets evoked when mortals with a lesser sense of art, like me, see this.
Another fine example of contemporary art- a clothesline- tied only at one end. Aah what a magnificent center-piece it would make in the formal drawing room.
Another county heard from- a red glazed plank- what was the artist thinking? Apparently from the description given, the artist's signature works are planks resting against walls.
Don't tell me now.... uh uh uh... inspired by initialization of telecast signal on television. According to the artist information posted alongside, this painting was developed at a crucial point in the development of the artist.
There are so many more that I could write about, and post pictures of, but I find myself lacking the patience and energy to take any more efforts on describing such 'beautiful' works of art.
