Tag?

I have no clue how the tag thing works, but a friend of mine recently (read: 2 months ago) tagged me, and since then my lazy digits couldn't summon the energy to type up a post in a reply to it. Finally, now that I am waking up to the written blog world once again, here are my

Five unusual things (happened/done)-

1. Went on a roller-coaster with a fifteen storey vertical drop, even though I have always been terrified of heights. The dumb notion that made me to go on the ride- 'if everyone else can go on it, so can you'. Fast forward to two minutes after strapping myself in the cockpit kinda seat- whoa this was thrilling, we should stand an hr in line for this ride again.

2. Sitting in the transit lounge of an International airport (Seoul) dreaming of some entertainment, since even the most advanced flat panel televisions were playing only Korean channels. Skip ten months from this event, and I am at the same airport, albeit this time my passport & ticket taken away by the authorities due to some weird technicality issues. I found myself boarding a transit passengers' bus to some nondescript hotel in the heart of the city, with a constant worry that without a passport I would be an invalid in this country.

3. I consider my family and I to be lucky to have escaped an accident, thanks to a ditch... although the funny part in this rather serious event in my life was- rolling up my jeans and getting down from the car sans shoes, into the muddy ditch!

4. A cute little girl coming and holding my hand least realizing that I was not her dad. For a good twenty minutes she gave me company, and finally when she saw her 'daddy', gave him a huge smile, and then looked at me with a very confused expression.

5. Drove a Maruti 800 through Laxmi Rd. in Pune, Maharashtra, and I am pretty sure I need not say more... (it was my first time driving in Pune!!)

I hope I did a good job with the short descriptions of the top five unusual things in my world?

Contemporary Art.... Art?

Recently I took up a student membership at the art museum in my city, and was absolutely thrilled at the prospect of being able to give ample time to each gallery. I should mention that for the last two years, I used to frequent the place when there was free admission, and almost always ended up going to the same sections again and again. However since becoming a member, I have taken up the adventure of exploring all the collections in this great place. I was pleasantly surprised to see lots of sculptures of Indian Gods and Goddesses and in an adjoining hall was the museum's contemporary art collection. Now I may not be a knowledgeable person when it comes to art, but I am sure that what I saw was nothing close to the A in Art.

As you can see in this picture, it is difficult to understand what possessed the artist to think that this is a master piece. And if it wasn't the artist then it would've been the critics who praised it to such heights that now it is hung at a short height in the art museum. A black board? an empty frame? or just a black trough ? so many different images gets evoked when mortals with a lesser sense of art, like me, see this.

Another fine example of contemporary art- a clothesline- tied only at one end. Aah what a magnificent center-piece it would make in the formal drawing room.

Another county heard from- a red glazed plank- what was the artist thinking? Apparently from the description given, the artist's signature works are planks resting against walls.

Don't tell me now.... uh uh uh... inspired by initialization of telecast signal on television. According to the artist information posted alongside, this painting was developed at a crucial point in the development of the artist.

There are so many more that I could write about, and post pictures of, but I find myself lacking the patience and energy to take any more efforts on describing such 'beautiful' works of art.
